The Delaware All-State Junior Band is comprised of the best musicians in grades 7 - 9 in the state.  Selection is by audition, and the preparation process is pretty intense.  It is almost a must that the student take private lessons from an teacher expert in that particular instrument.  In addition to a prepared solo, the student must also play 8 scales from memory, and sightread proficiently.  Usually, most students have months of preparation time invested.

This year, we had one student from Postlethwait 8th Grade Band make the DE All-State Jr. Band.  Glen Chilcote, a former trumpet player, switched to the Euphonium in 7th grade.  Over the summer, he began his private study will Mr. Joseph Naff, a local brass instrument specialist.  Glen has truly found his niche with the euphonium, and he is to be congratulated on such a major accomplishment so quickly!

          The Kent County Jr. Honors Band includes some of the best musicians in Kent County.  Caesar Rodney, Capital, Lake Forest, Smyrna, and Milford School Districts along with Campus Community School participate in this event.  Students are selected by director recommendation combined with available instrumentation.
The Honors Band presented their concert on Saturday, March 10, 2001 at Milford HS.  Guest conducting the group was Mr. Paul Hess, from Shue-Medill MS in Newark, DE.  Students agreed it was a very intensive learning situation, extremely demanding mentally and physically, but well worth the effort.  Boundaries of school rivalry were transcended as many friendships were forged, proving that music truly is the universal language.
